Whether it was or not, I agree with your premise. I wholeheartedly support copyright concepts, including reasonable royalties (I am a registered copyright holder myself) but the current escalation of protection schemes has reached a point of doing more harm than good.
Let's hope that the latest volley by Steve Jobs (while self-serving, still works to the general public's interest) creates a crack in the DRM monolith.
